Legal status and tax
New Jersey allows online casino games, online poker and online sports betting. Internet gaming is set out in Article 6C of the Casino Control Act. No Internet gaming may open to the public until an Atlantic City casino licensee or its licensed Internet gaming affiliate receives a permit from the DGE. Sports wagering, including online sports pools, is set out in P.L. 2018, c. 33. The DGE issues sports wagering licenses to casinos, the Racing Commission issues the initial licenses to racetracks, and offering a sports pool without approval is a crime of the fourth degree.
Each Atlantic City casino files a monthly Internet gaming gross revenue report with the DGE, which the DGE publishes on njoag.gov with the tax due for the month. Tax rates for online casino and online sports wagering are not covered on this page yet.
Frequently asked questions
Who regulates online gambling in New Jersey?
New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, usually shortened to DGE, oversees gambling in New Jersey. Online casino games and online poker in New Jersey run only through an Atlantic City casino licensee that holds a DGE Internet gaming permit, on the sites the DGE approves for it. Online sports betting runs through a casino or racetrack that holds a sports wagering license and its online sports pool.
How do I check if a casino holds a New Jersey license?
Type the casino name or its web address into the search on this page, which reads the DGE register every day. A real licensee appears there under its own name. The DGE publishes two lists on njoag.gov. The Internet gaming sites page names each Atlantic City casino licensee and the online casino and poker sites approved under it. The sports wagering page lists the casinos and racetracks with licensed online sports wagering pools and their sites. On 25 October 2026 the Internet gaming page listed 9 casino licensees with 28 numbered site entries, and the sports wagering page listed sites for 7 casinos and 2 racetracks. Neither page gives license numbers, status or dates. A separate DGE file lists the Internet gaming permit holders with permit numbers such as NJIGP 26-001, and this site joins those numbers to the casino names. njoag.gov blocks automated access, so this site updates New Jersey from a reading of both pages in a browser, and each result shows the date of that reading.
